Making the transition from a crib to a kids bed is a milestone for every parent and toddler. There’s nothing more important than the safety and well-being of your child, especially in their sleep. Toddler beds come in a variety of styles and options – from a traditional bed style to a daybed style. No matter what you choose, here are a few tips on keeping your little one safe.
1. Safety rails: Safety rails are a must have for your toddler bed. They’ve spent the first two or so years in a crib that was guarded on all four sides so their little bodies are used to sleeping as wildly as they’d like. To prevent accidents and roll outs, safety rails can be attached and detached easily. An alternative to the rails would be a convertible toddler bed which often includes a rail to match the unit that can later be removed as well.
2. No sharp or easily removable, loose parts: You may be tempted to purchase a bed with fancy head or footboards, but those can be very dangerous.
3. Keep it low to the ground: With a toddler bed comes new found freedom and independence. Your toddler will now have the ability to easily get in and out of bed. Look for a bed that sits low to the ground to decrease the chance of them being hurt should they fall or jump off the bed.
